Chattanooga State Community College assistant basketball coach Volonte Bell, the brother of New Orleans Saints safety Vonn Bell, was killed in a car accident in Tennessee Sunday night.

Volonte Bell was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on I-24 last night, according to the Chattanooga Times Free-Press. His Honda Civic was traveling in the middle lane when it failed to slow down for a Volvo truck with a trailer attached that was traveling ahead of it.

Bell's car struck the trailer and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The 29-year-old was in his third season as an assistant at Chattanooga State.

"The Chattanooga State family is deeply saddened by the passing of Volonte Bell," read a statement released by the school today. "Volonte was killed in a tragic car accident last night. He has been a valued member of our men’s basketball coaching staff for the last three seasons and will be greatly missed."

Vonn Bell has spent the last four seasons with the Saints after being selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Vonn and the entire Bell family during this time.

May Volonte rest in peace.
