On Thursday morning, LSU head coach Will Wade was directly connected to one of the central figures in college basketball’s pay-for-play scandal. According to Yahoo! Sports, the FBI wiretapped conversations between Wade and Christian Dawkins.
Dawkins was sentenced to six months in jail for bribing college coaches and allegedly arranged payments for a number of recruits in order to steer them towards specific programs. The FBI reportedly has audio of Wade “speaking freely about a ‘strong-ass offer'” for a recruit.
A few hours after the report called Wade’s involvement into question, the Tigers head coach addressed the incident. He dismissed the report, saying he hasn’t read it yet.
While Wade might not be aware of the report, college basketball analyst Dick Vitale is.
Vitale took to Twitter on Thursday night to eviscerate the LSU head coach for his comments on the alleged wiretap.
“DISGRACEFUL is one word I can think of in reading the comments by Will Wade. His statements on the wiretap are EMBARRASSING & brings a total humiliation to LSU. A SUSPENSION IS IN ORDER NOW until LSU investigates the matter!” Vitale said on Twitter.

Vitale is clearly fed up with the play-for-play scandal that rocked college basketball. However, he’s made strong comments in the past in support of ousted Louisville head coach Rick Pitino.
Wade is 42-20 in two years at LSU, with a 14-2 conference record this season. LSU sits at No. 10 in the nation heading into conference tournament play.
