Earlier: Dick Vitale is always active on Twitter, willing to share his opinion on a number of topics. Today, he caused a minor stir when he misunderstood a tweet about a hypothetical NBA trade.

This afternoon, Dickie V tweeted out congratulations to the New Orleans Pelicans for moving back in the first round and obtaining Indiana Pacers big man Myles Turner. As you can imagine, this tweet raised eyebrows.

Turner is a quality pro, and it would be surprising if Indiana moved him. Also, the No. 10 pick the Pelicans allegedly received belongs to the Atlanta Hawks, meaning this would have to be a three-team deal.

Is it possible Vitale was breaking news here? Not quite. Apparently, he read the mock scenario in this tweet from Bill Simmons and thought it was actually going down.

Insert a joke about Baby Boomers not understanding how Twitter works.

Dickie V agreed to a contract extension with ESPN this week, which is tremendous for college basketball. However, he isn't going to be taking Adrian Wojnarowski's job anytime soon.

Update: Dickie V has retracted his previous tweet.

Carry on.
