The 2022 recruiting class still has a long ways to go before it materializes. But one of the class's top prospects, high school sophomore forward Emoni Bates, is already dropping hints as to who is in the running.

According to Tipton Edits, Bates said that Michigan State has "always been his dream school." Bates is a Michigan native and has already taken multiple unofficial visits to Michigan State and Michigan.

247Sports rates Bates as a five-star recruit and the No. 1 overall prospect in the Class of 2022. Recruiting director Evan Daniels wrote the scouting report on Bates, in which he compares him to NBA megastar Kevin Durant.

"Slender, but is 6-foot-8 and has long arms. He’s a good athlete that bounces off the ground with ease. His skill set and offensive package is advanced for his age," Daniels writes. "He handles the ball well, uses hesitations and jab moves to create space and is a gifted three-level scorer... shoots it well on the move and off the bounce, and despite lacking strength finishes well at the rim. He also has a strong motor, is a gifted passer and a willing rebounder. Next step is adding strength, but there’s plenty of time for that. Bates was arguably the best freshman prospect since LeBron James."

247Sports' Crystal Ball Predictions currently have Bates' destination down to a 50-50 split between Michigan State and Kentucky. John Calipari and the Wildcats would represent significant opposition to Tom Izzo's recruiting efforts. But for Bates to declare his love for Michigan State so soon is definitely a good sign for the Spartans.

Will Emoni Bates be a Michigan State player when all is said and done?
