ESPN: Patrick Ewing, Tommy Amaker Make The Most Sense For Georgetown

Here are the two coaches that make the most sense for the Georgetown opening.

Georgetown has fired longtime head coach John Thompson III, according to multiple reports and, now, an official statement from the university.

JT3 had been the Hoyas' head coach since 2004. Who will the university target as his replacement?

According to ESPN's Andy Katz, there are two names that Georgetown will likely target. One's in the Hoyas' family and the other isn't.

  • Former Georgetown star and Charlotte Hornets assistant coach Patrick Ewing
  • Harvard head coach Tommy Amaker

From ESPN:

If Georgetown stays in the family, Charlotte Hornets assistant coach Patrick Ewing makes the most sense. If outside, Hoyas should make a run at Harvard's Tommy Amaker.

Ewing's obviously a huge name, especially in the Washington, D.C. area, and his coaching resume is improving by the year. He's been an NBA assistant coach since 2002.

Amaker, meanwhile, has led three different college basketball programs as a head coach - Seton Hall, Michigan and, since 2007, Harvard. While he played collegiately at Duke, he has ties to the Washington, D.C. area, being from Northern Virginia.

Who do you want, Georgetown fans?
