Duke just landed a very talented guard in Gary Trent Jr.
Gary Trent Jr., the No. 11 player overall in the class of 2017 according to 247Sports, announced his commitment to Duke on Thursday. The Napa, CA native made his announcement on ESPNU.
The 6-foot-5 guard from Prolific Prep had a total of at least 15 offers including Michigan State, Arizona, and Kentucky to name a few.
Trent Jr. has actually been writing about basketball and his recruiting process in a blog with USA Today. Here is what he had to say about committing to Duke and how big of an influence coach Mike Krzyzewski had on his decision:
I picked Duke because of Coach K.
He’s a brand himself and his track record is amazing. He’s the winningest coach of all-time and I truly believe that he can do nothing but improve and benefit my life in every way, shape and form.
I really believe that he’s gonna help me grow into a great basketball player, but, also, an even greater young man.
Trent Jr. comes from a basketball family as his father is currently an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
