Five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey is announcing his commitment this afternoon. Maxey is one of the top recruits in the 2019 class.
Maxey, who hails from Garland (Tex.) has upwards of 20 scholarship offers, but only one school has been expected to land his commitment. That program is Kentucky.
It is a foregone conclusion that Maxey will pick Kentucky this afternoon. The only remaining drama will be whether or not he elects to reclassify to the class of 2018, which seemed more likely to happen earlier this spring.
Look at Maxey's 247Sports Crystal Ball. It's basically all blue.
Assuming Maxey does stay in the class of 2019, Kentucky will have landed the top two point guards in that cycle in Maxey and Ashton Hagans. That's in addition to landing four-star small forward D.J. Jeffries.
Kentucky is also in a two-horse race with Memphis for the No. 1 player in the 2019 class, big man James Wiseman. No one should be surprised if the Wildcats win that battle.
Maxey is the No. 1 player in Texas and the No. 13 overall player in the 2019 class, per 247Sports' Composite Rankings.
He will announce his commitment at approximately 5 p.m. ET on Twitter.
