Jay Bilas Furious With NCAA's Decision, 'Should Not Be In This Business'
ESPN's Jay Bilas is a frequent critic of the NCAA, its policies and how it chooses to enforce them.
On Wednesday, Bilas again called out the organization after it denied VCU's Joe Bamisile the chance to play this season as a multi-time transfer.
Bamisile has played at George Washington, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech. His waiver to play at OU last season was approved, but this time it was shot down as he tried to go home to play at VCU to be closer to his father after open heart surgery.
"There is no legitimate reason to deny this transfer," Bilas said on Twitter. "Bamisile lives eight miles from VCU. Does the NCAA believe his father is faking his illness and Bamisile is faking his mental health issues? The NCAA should not be in this business."
Bamisile released a statement saying he was "very sad" at the ruling and acknowledging his waiver last season was approved because he struggled with anxiety and isolation while at GW.
Bamisile's situation is similar to the one involving North Carolina football wide receiver Tez Walker, who also had his waiver to play this year rejected.
A multi-time transfer like Bamisile, Walker moved from Kent State to UNC this season to be closer to his family, particularly his ill grandmother.
