Kentucky guard Dontaie Allen announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on Thursday.

The sophomore posted a letter thanking Big Blue Nation for "embracing me unconditionally through the highs and lows."

"Lexington, Kentucky will forever be my home," Allen wrote. "After much thought and consideration, I have decided to put my name into the transfer portal."

Allen averaged 2.2 points and 6.4 minutes played in 19 games this season for the Wildcats, whose NCAA tournament run ended with a stunning first-round loss to St. Peter's. The Falmouth, Kentucky, native will seek a larger role elsewhere. Many onlookers, including Kentucky alum and current NBA G League guard Ashton Hagans, wished Allen luck in his next chapter.

Some expect to see big things from the former four-star recruit in a new setting.

Allen's opportunities diminished after logging 14.0 minutes per game in his first year with the Wildcats, so it's not surprising to see him seek a fresh start.
