We're barely brushing up with the holiday season, and a college basketball coach has already been fired.

Mark Price, in just his third season as head coach of the 49ers, was 3-6 to start the year. His teams finished 14-19 and 13-17 his first two years.

Clearly he has not gotten the job done, but still, it is jarring to see a coaching change this early in the season.

Minutes ago, word came down from Charlotte that he is out effective immediately.

Houston Fancher, now the interim head coach for the 49ers, was the longtime head coach at Appalachian State. He went 137-136 from 2000-2009, winning the Southern Conference regular season three times, and clinching an NIT berth once.
