Western Kentucky Has Granted 5-Star Center Mitchell Robinson His Release

Landing five-star center Mitchell Robinson turned out to be too good to be true for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

It has been a whirlwind few days in the relationship between Robinson and WKU basketball.

On July 28, it was reported that Robinson had cleaned out his dorm room and was no longer on campus.

The next day, he met with head coach Rick Stansbury, and on Monday, was suspended from the team.

Now, he has been granted his release from Western Kentucky.

A recruit the caliber of Robinson signing with a mid-major program, albeit a good one in Western Kentucky, was pretty much unprecedented.

The former Chalmette High School star was the No. 1 center and No. 8 overall recruit in the country. He shockingly committed to WKU on June 29, 2016, and signed with Stansbury's program on November 9.

Now, it appears that he'll be free to head elsewhere, putting a blue-chip player back on the market just weeks before programs begin practice. It should be an interesting last-minute recruitment.
