Seven-footer James Wiseman, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2019 class, has announced his commitment. The five-star Memphis (Tenn.) East product is staying home.
Wiseman picked the hometown Memphis Tigers over Kentucky, though Florida State also made a strong push. He officially visited all three programs this fall, with Memphis being the most recent visit in late October.
Wiseman made his choice during the noon edition of ESPN’s SportsCenter.

Wiseman is the first marquee recruit for Penny Hardaway at Memphis. He is regarded as a one-and-done prospect.
Wiseman joins four-star power forward D.J. Jeffries and three-star center Malcolm Dandridge in the Tigers’ 2019 class.
Potentially, Wiseman could be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. ESPN’s Paul Biancardi called him a “projected top-three pick in the draft” on SportsCenter today.
