The Tar Heels will be without the key player moving forward.

North Carolina got bad news on Pittsburgh transfer Cameron Johnson today.

The former starter for the Panthers has to undergo knee surgery on a torn meniscus.

Johnson suffered the injury at practice on Monday.

It's unclear how long Johnson will be out.

Head coach Roy Williams released the following statement.

"I'm extremely disappointed for Cameron," he said. "The young man has been working hard to blend in with our team after being such a productive college player the last two-plus seasons."

Johnson started every game for Pittsburgh last season, averaging 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 a game.

North Carolina is set to play Bucknell at 8 p.m. E.T. tonight.
