A photo of a college basketball mascot and his cheerleaders terrorizing fans at a conference tournament is going viral on social media.
The mascot, Providence’s terrifying “Friar,” has gone viral on social media before.
“As the college’s Web site tells us, the ghastly Friar arrived in 2002 — two years after I left town. He replaced the only mascot I knew: the live Dalmatian, Friar Boy V, who chilled courtside at basketball games with his ordained handler — more on the dog later.
Friar Dom, who wears the traditional cowl of the Dominican brothers, was given a few aesthetic tweaks over the years until he eventually became the frightening, gaunt spectacle he is today,” the New York Post wrote last year.
He was back on Wednesday night.
Nicole Auerbach tweeted out this photo of the mascot at the Big East Tournament.

The mascot will be back today, too. Providence is set to play Villanova in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals.
Tipoff is set for noon E.T. on FS1.
