Report: Dayton Could Hire Former Illinois Coach John Groce

The Flyers might have interest in the former Illini head coach.

Dayton is one of the best mid-major jobs in college basketball and the Flyers likely have several good coaches interested in the opening left by Archie Miller, who's now at Indiana.

One of those coaches is probably John Groce, who was fired by Illinois this season.

ESPN's Andy Katz says he's a very viable candidate.

From ESPN:

Dayton is expected to cast a wide net, but one name that could be viable is former Illinois coach John Groce. Groce was a head coach at Ohio and assistant at Ohio State and Xavier and knows the state and Midwest well. The Flyers are expected to act fast in the next week.

Groce, 45, has several ties to the state of Ohio, previously coaching at Ohio University. He's also been an assistant coach at Ohio State and Xavier under Thad Matta.
