The Hoyas are reportedly targeting these two prominent head coaches.
Texas' Shaka Smart and Notre Dame's Mike Brey are being targeted for the Georgetown job, according to the Washington Post.
Both Smart and Brey have ties to the Washington, D.C. area. Brey was born in Maryland and served as an assistant at local high school power DeMatha. Smart was previously the head coach at VCU.
Harvard's Tommy Amaker is also a candidate to replace John Thompson III.
From the Washington Post:
Less than 24 hours after parting ways with longtime coach John Thompson III, Georgetown officials began their search in earnest for a replacement on Friday morning, with a handful of familiar Division I names under consideration, according to people familiar with the proceedings.
Among the more intriguing candidates are Tommy Amaker, Mike Brey and Shaka Smart, one person with knowledge of the situation confirmed while requesting anonymity because negotiations are in the nascent stages.
There are likely to be other candidates, including former Georgetown star Patrick Ewing, who's been an NBA assistant coach for more than a decade.
