Report: Ohio State Basketball Program Hit With Minor Recruiting Violations
Ohio State's men's basketball program was hit with minor recruiting violations, according to a report from the Lantern, Ohio State University's school newspaper. The report stems from Ohio State's football game against Oklahoma in early September.
ESPN's College GameDay was in town for the matchup, and the three recruits, along with former Ohio State football recruit and current Penn State Nittany Lion Micah Parsons, were allowed on stage to meet with Kirk Herbstreit and former Ohio State star Eddie George.
Meeting former players isn't an infraction, but since Herbstreit is part of the media, the meeting was ruled as a violation.
According to the report from the Lantern, the three players are Luther Muhammad, Jaedon LeDee, and Elijah Weaver.
It declared the three prospects ineligible, requiring Ohio State to apply for reinstatement for the student-athletes involved in the violation from the NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement staff. This specific sanction matches what Ohio State self-imposed in its punishment of the football program.
The NCAA also issued a reduction of “two recruiting person days” and forced Penn to sit out one game.
Muhammad and LeDee signed with Ohio State, while Elijah Weaver signed with USC.
It's not known if the players have been reinstated at this point, or if that process will begin in June when they both get on campus in Columbus. The Buckeyes have appealed the ruling, though it's unclear if a decision has been reached.
Neither the NCAA or Ohio State responded to The Lantern about the violations.
