The top basketball recruit in the 2019 class may reclassify.
Canadian star R.J. Barrett is the No. 1 recruit in the 2019 class. The five-star small forward is weighing a potential reclassification, according to a new report.
Barrett told ESPN’s Paul Biancardi that he is considering reclassifying to 2018, and will ultimately decide whether he will or not this summer.
“When the EYBL season and the Canadian team competition is over I will sit down sometime in August with my dad (Rowan) and discuss the possibilities of re-classifying to the senior class. I understand that it’s a big jump but I am open to the possibilities both academically and athletically.”
The 6-foot-6, 180-pound Barrett plays for Montverde (Fla.) Academy. He already holds offers from Duke, Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, UCLA and Missouri, among others.
If Barrett does make the jump to 2018, he will immediately vault his way near the top of the rankings. Five-star power forward Marvin Bagley is currently the top 2018 prospect.
