On Tuesday night, the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants dominated headlines after the two teams agreed on a trade for Odell Beckham Jr.
However, while most of the nation was focused on that trade, one of the biggest college basketball upsets of the season went down.
Saint Mary’s and No. 1 Gonzaga met in the West Coast Conference title game Tuesday night. The Bulldogs entered as the heavy favorite, but quickly found they were in for a fight.
The Gaels held a three-point lead at the half, taking a 27-24 lead into the final 20 minutes. They never looked back, outscoring Gonzaga 33-23 over the final 20 minutes to take a 61-47 win.
With the victory, Saint Mary’s locked itself into an NCAA Tournament bid.

Gonzaga was in line for a 1-seed heading into the NCAA Tournament.
However, this loss could cost the team a No. 1 spot. Several teams, including the Duke Blue Devils and Michigan State Spartans could steal a 1-seed with solid performances in their respective conference tournaments.
With the win, Saint Mary’s likely cost another team an at-large bid. Teams on the bubble won’t be happy the Gaels took down the No. 1 team in the nation.
The bids will be handed out on Sunday, March 17.
