San Jose State basketball coach Dave Wojcik has stepped down tonight.
The university announced the move in a press release a short time ago.
The 48-year-old Wojcik coached at SJSU for five seasons, compiling a 32-90 overall record.
He said he was stepping down for personal reasons.
“This past year has been emotionally challenging for me with the loss of my father. His passing made me evaluate what is important in life and the value of family. With the considerable needs of my widowed mother as well as my son moving to the East Coast after his high school graduation, I believe it is the appropriate time to resign my position as head men’s basketball coach at San José University,” said Wojcik.
Assistant coach Rodney Tention has stepped in as the interim head coach, but this is a less than ideal position for SJSU to be in considering the July live recruiting period starts this week.
Most importantly, we want to extend our best wishes to Wojcik and his family.
