Over the weekend, Shareef O'Neal, son of NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, sent and deleted a tweet many believe was linked to the news that Sean Miller was caught on wiretap discussing a payment for a current player. According to an ESPN report, Miller discussed a $100,000 payment for a recruit coming out of high school.
In the hours that have followed, Miller released a statement and stepped down as Arizona's head coach - for one game against Oregon.
The news got worse for Arizona fans, unfortunately. After sending and deleting a tweet from over the weekend saying he doesn't "want to be involved with that" referring to Arizona, Shareef O'Neal had decided to look at other programs.
Now, according to a report from TMZ, there's a new favorite to land the top prospect.
Shareef O'Neal is "leaning toward signing with UCLA" after pulling his commitment to the University of Arizona ... sources tell TMZ Sports.
The article goes on to state O'Neal wants to play on the west coast, and is likely to sign with a team in the Pac-12. If Sean Miller is exonerated of any wrongdoing, it's possible that O'Neal returns to the university.
247Sports' Crystal Ball predictions has Kentucky as the favorite to land O'Neal, but most of those predictions came in before his commitment to Arizona. O'Neal holds offers from Arizona, LSU, UCLA and a few other programs.
