Standout High School Basketball Player Ryse Williams Dies From Cancer At 18

He passed away the day before his high school graduation.

Terrible news out of the state of California.

The high school basketball community is reeling after the death of standout guard Ryse Williams.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Williams died Thursday after a short battle with cancer, his former Redondo coach, Reggie Morris Jr., confirmed.

Williams was scheduled to graduate from high school the following day.

His former coach had this to say:

“As fine as a young man as I’ve ever coached,” said Morris, who became an assistant coach at Loyola Marymount last season, then recruited Williams. “A great kid from a great family.”

From the L.A. Times report:

Morris said he had been unaware of Williams’ illness. Redondo's coach this past season, Victor Martin, told the Daily Breeze that Williams was hospitalized a week ago after becoming ill. Tests revealed he had cancer.

Williams had signed with Loyola Marymount to play college basketball.

Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
