Just last week, No. 1 Michigan State lost the very first game of the season to the Kentucky Wildcats.
After beating then-No. 1 Michigan State and Eastern Kentucky last week, John Calipari’s squad was the new top-ranked team in America this week. In their first game as the No. 1 team in the country, though, it all went off the rails.
At halftime tonight at Rupp Arena, the Wildcats trailed Evansville 34-30. Fans thought the Wildcats would snap out of their funk, but it continued well into the second half.
Kentucky struggled from the field and was out-hustled on the boards. The Purple Aces finished with an edge in rebounds, assists and shot better from the field than the Wildcats.
Kentucky fought back hard in the final moments of the game, but it was too little, too late.
Evansville walked out with a 67-64 win.

Evansville won it’s first game of the season against Ball State and just took down the No. 1 team in the country. After winning just 11 games last season, the Purple Aces are off to a hot start to the 2019-20 season.
As for Kentucky, the Wildcats fall to 2-1 on the season, but shouldn’t suffer too much in the rankings. More than likely, John Calipari’s squad will bounce back and finish the season strong.
