This is a terrible call.
Referees have a difficult job. Calling a game in real-time isn’t as easy as we’d all like to believe it is.
Sometimes refs make mistakes, but most of the time they make the right call. This is not one of those times, however.
Actually, this might be the worst foul call in the history of college basketball. That might sound like hyperbole until you see what we’re talking about.
On Thursday night, Louisiana Tech and Charlotte faced off in a Conference USA showdown. The Bulldogs raced out to a 12-point lead at halftime, and didn’t look back the rest of the way.
Five minutes into the second half, Louisiana Tech had a 20-point lead. A few seconds later, the team’s best player was ejected from the game for throwing down a monster dunk.
Jacobi Boykins received a technical foul earlier in the game for blocking a shot and allegedly saying “gimme that sh*t.” Now, that’s a questionable reason to give a technical foul in the first place.
And yet, the refs found a way to make an even bigger blunder. Boykins stole the ball and raced down the court to dunk the ball. He doesn’t appear to taunt an opponent, but is assessed a technical anyway.

Even the broadcasters calling the game couldn’t believe the officiating they were seeing.
