ESPN Writers Name Auburn Most Overrated SEC Team
Which team is the most overrated in the SEC?
A panel of four ESPN writers --Edward Aschoff, David Ching, Greg Ostendorf and Alex Scarborough--were asked this question. The four writers used ESPN's FPI ratings and judged which SEC program was rated too high by the computer.
Three of the four said Auburn, which is ranked fifth in FPI. Ostendorf chose Florida, slotted 15th.
Here's a sample of what was said about the Tigers. This is from David Ching:
Honestly all of the SEC teams in the top 20 who aren’t Alabama feel overvalued to me. But the one whose ranking gives me the most pause is Auburn. Maybe the Tigers belong at No. 5 now that Stidham is on board. Maybe they will improve upon last season’s step in the right direction. But this is a program that has lost three of its last four games, with new faces in several key positions. I think Auburn has a chance to be great, but the flop risk is awfully high for a program that is just 23-16 (11-13 SEC) since playing for the national title in 2013.
Auburn hasn't topped the eight-win mark in the last three seasons after winning 12 games and making the BCS title game in 2013.
Will the Tigers, led by their new QB Jarrett Stidham, live up to the hype in 2017? Or are these ESPN opinions on the mark, and AU will underachieve?
We'll see.
