Boston College Upset NC State In The 2nd Round Of ACC Tournament
Boston College has pulled off an upset in the second round of the ACC Tournament.
The 12th-seeded Eagles (19-14) further bolstered their NIT resume and kept their NCAA Tournament hopes alive with a 91-87 win over fifth-seeded NC State in the second game of today's action at Brooklyn.
The Eagles jumped out to 14-point halftime lead and led by as many as 17 before NC State came storming back to tie it. Guard Jerome Robinson's jump shot with 21 seconds left put the Boston College ahead for good.
Of course, NC State still had to bungle away the end of the game to clinch a win for BC. First, Allerik Freeman threw away the ensuing inbounds pass, which led to a foul and two Boston College free throws.
Then, after Markell Johnson's layup with eight seconds left cut the deficit to 89-87, NC State called a timeout it didn't have. Boston College got the ball back and made a pair of free throws to clinch it.
With the win, BC moves to to play fourth-seeded Clemson in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals tomorrow. This is the first time the Eagles won two ACC Tournament games in one session since 2006.
NC State should still be in the NCAA Tournament field even with this loss but their seeding will take a hit.
ACC Tournament action continues tonight with Virginia Tech-Notre Dame and Syracuse-UNC.
