Boston College Is Giving No. 1 Clemson All It Can Handle
It's still early, but the Boston College Eagles are giving the top-ranked Clemson Tigers all they can handle on Saturday afternoon.
We knew the Tigers offense would take some time to get going today. Superstar quarterback Trevor Lawrence tested positive this past week and is now in isolation. Backup freshman phenom DJ Uiagalelei got the start on Saturday as a result.
Clemson's offense hasn't been the problem today, though. It's the Tigers defense that's having major struggles containing Phil Jurkovec and the Boston College offense.
The Eagles have scored with ease on their first two offensive possessions, thanks to an impressive start from Jurkovec and the supporting cast. No. 1 Clemson might be in major trouble today.
Boston College leads Clemson, 14-7, late in the first quarter.
We can't remember the last time Clemson looked this beatable. Obviously, a lack of Trevor Lawrence's talent and leadership is making a big difference. But the real problem for the Tigers is on the defensive side of the ball.
Boston College quarterback and Notre Dame transfer Phil Jurkovec is finding open receivers all over the field. He's also utilized his legs a few times to pick up key first downs. It's safe to say Jurkovec is single-handedly making the Clemson defense appear beatable.
We've seen this story before, though. There's plenty of time left in this one. Boston College holds a slim 14-7 lead over the top-ranked Clemson Tigers late in the first quarter.
