Dabo Swinney Has Great Comment On Jeff Scott's Departure
Earlier this week, South Florida has officially announced its new head football coach. Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott will take over as head coach of the Bulls.
It's the first major departure from Dabo Swinney's coaching staff - with regard to Chad Morris, of course. Although the Tigers have been one of the best programs in the country over the past five years, they've been lucky to hold onto a majority of their staff.
The big hit finally came when Scott accepted the head coaching job at USF.
During a press conference for the College Football Playoff semi-finals, Swinney addressed Scott's decision to leave the program. Swinney remarked about finally starting his coaching tree.
"I don’t have much of a coaching tree. But I got a twig," Swinney said.
Scott was a finalist for the 2018 Broyles Award - given to the nation's best assistant coach.
Clemson should be just fine heading into the College Football Playoff, even without Scott. Co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott will take the reigns as the Tigers face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Fiesta Bowl.
Clemson enters the game as a slight favorite. After winning the national title last season, Dabo Swinney and company finished yet another season with an undefeated record - but aren't the No. 1 team in the country.
