4-Star QB Taisun Phommachanh Commits To Clemson
Clemson has had no shortage of top-flight quarterback talent. That will continue in the class of 2019. The Tigers just picked up yet another blue chip player at the position. This time, it comes with Taisun Phommachanh's commitment.
Phommachanh comes from a bit outside Clemson's normal recruiting grounds. The four-star player is from Bridgeport, Connecticut. He plays at the state's prestigious Avon Old Farms high school. He's the top player in the Nutmeg State.
247Sports has him at No. 114 overall in the country. He's the third-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country.
Clemson football landed Taisun Phommachanh's commitment today.
Ahead of his pledge, 85-percent of recruiting experts thought he'd be a Tiger. Today, he made it so.
In his tweet, he says he is 100-percent committed to Clemson. The full note:
"First and foremost I would like to thank God for all the blessings, without him I wouldn't be here. Huge thank you to my parents/family for all the love guideance and support. I could not make it through this process alone. Thank you to all the coaches and everyone who's been involved and supporting me. I've been dreaming of being able to play college ball since I was a kid, the day has finally arrived were I can commit to a school were I feel at home. I believe Clemson University will elevate me Academically and athletic. With that being said I am 100% committed to the Clemson University!! #Day1toD1 #ALLIN #WE2DEEP19"
Florida State was believed to be the other main contender to land Phommachanh. The 'Noles had the remaining predictions at 247.
With his commitment, Clemson now has seven members of the class of 2019. He is the first quarterback.
The Tigers' class ranks 13th overall, and third in the ACC so far. Last year, the Tigers brought in Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 overall player in the country. Throw in incumbent starter Kelly Bryant and another former five-star Hunter Johnson, and there is plenty of competition to be had for Taisun Phommachanh and everyone else contending for the Clemson starting quarterback job down the road.
