Trevor Lawrence is Clemson-bound, and officially finishes his high school career as the nation's top player.

Trevor Lawrence committed to Clemson back on December 15, 2016. Just over a year later, he officially signed to play for Dabo Swinney.

Lawrence is one of the top quarterbacks to come out of the state of Georgia. In 2018, he finishes as the top player in the entire country.

247Sports just officially cemented its 2018 recruiting rankings. Lawrence had been dueling with fellow quarterback Justin Fields for the No. 1 spot.

Fields is also a Georgia native. Unlike Lawrence, he will play for his home state Bulldogs, and has already enrolled.

Fields passed Lawrence for a bit in the overall composite rankings, but Lawrence wound up passing him. Today, 247 announced that Lawrence is officially its composite player of the year.

"The 247Sports Composite has been finalized for the class of 2018, and we're now able to officially crown Trevor Lawrence as the 247Sports Composite National Player of the Year. If this sentence seems like a given, it's because it has been. Other than a brief period last year in which Justin Fields dropped Lawrence to No. 2 overall, Lawrence has been the unquestioned top overall player in the 2018 class."

Lawrence wasn't just the top player this year; he is a historically great prospect. More, from 247:

"A 6-foot-6, 208-pound pocket-passing prototype, 247Sports assigned Lawrence a 101 overall grade. That’s the highest mark ever for a quarterback in the Top247’s history. His 247Sports Composite rating is a .9999, edging Fields (.9998). Lawrence is the third quarterback to finish atop the 247Sports Composite since its retroactive inception, joining Vince Young (2002) and Matt Barkley (2009).

A Clemson signee, Lawrence is more than just an ideal frame with a rocket arm. He’s a model of consistency. Playing at Cartersville High School in Georgia, Lawrence went 51-3 overall as a starter and won a pair of state championships over a four-year starting career. He’s a legend of Friday Night Lights in a football-crazed state, throwing for over 3,000 yards every season. Lawrence threw 40 touchdowns against only a single pick his senior year."

Like Fields, Lawrence is heading to a team with a very good quarterback situation. Kelly Bryant just led the Tigers to the College Football Playoff, and Hunter Johnson was a top recruit last year.

Still, Lawrence may be in the mix to start right away. Some analysts even think he'll win the job.
