UConn Officially Announces Dan Hurley As New Head Coach

UConn has made its hire of Dan Hurley official.
The school announced they have hired Hurley this morning, and released a statement on the move moments ago.
"We are thrilled to name Dan Hurley as our next coach," said UConn president Susan Herbst. "I never doubted for a moment that UConn would be able to attract a coach of Dan's talent. He understands UConn, student-athletes at this level and college basketball in the Northeast. I know our entire community will be delighted to welcome Dan, Andrea and their family to UConn."
Hurley has signed a six-year deal with compensation of $2.75 million in his first season.
Hurley spent the last six seasons at URI. He led the Rams to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2018 Atlantic 10 regular season title, compiling an overall record of 112-82 in the process.
Prior to URI, he revamped a struggling Wagner program, taking the Seahawks from a 5-25 season under Mike Deane in 2009-10 to the doorstep of the NCAA Tournament two years later.
Hurley was 38-23 in two seasons at Wagner. Before taking the job there, he built St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.J. into a national powerhouse over the course of nine seasons. Hurley coached a number of standouts with the Gray Bees, including current NBA players Tristan Thompson, Lance Thomas and J.R. Smith.
Hurley is the son of legendary New Jersey high school coach Bob Hurley Sr. and the younger brother of former Duke star Bobby Hurley. He was a fine player in his own right at Seton Hall from 1991-96, helping the Pirates reach two NCAA Tournaments and win the 1993 Big East Tournament.
