Florida's Jalen Tabor Addresses Practice Fight, Suspension On Twitter

Jalen Tabor, Florida's star cornerback, and tight end C'yontai Lewis were suspended from team activities, and for the Gators' season opener, today following a reported practice altercation.

Head coach Jim McElwain cited "unacceptable behavior" in his decision, and according to multiple reports, a fight broke out between the two that involved helmets being swung. From ESPN:

"I want to echo what I said earlier," McElwain said. "These are both fine young men who will learn and be stronger from their actions. They will also be suspended for the first game. There are life lessons in everything we do. We will be better because of it and no one person is bigger than the Florida Gators."

Tabor, who is going by the name "Teez" this season, took to Twitter this afternoon to address the suspension. While he said he accepts the suspension, but didn't realize that a player can be suspended for a practice fight.

Tabor is one of Florida's best players and the top cornerbacks in the SEC, so one can imagine that the fight had to be pretty serious for McElwain to make this decision.

This is not Tabor's first suspension as a Florida Gator. Last year, he missed the game against Tennessee, the team that he has relentlessly trolled all offseason. The Gators shouldn't miss either player too much in their opener against UMass at home, but the team would certainly rather have one of its best players active in week one.

Jalen Tabor was an All-SEC player in 2015. He started nine of 13 games for the Gators, registering 40 total tackles, four interceptions, 18 passes deflected, and returned two of his picks for Gator touchdowns.

Lewis played in nine games for the Gators last season, catching four passes for 75 yards. He scored two touchdowns in the 2015 season opener against New Mexico State, a 61-13 Florida win.
