Here Is How Georgia QB Jake Fromm Reportedly Broke His Hand On July 4th

Jake Fromm injury update: we now have more details on how the Georgia quarterback broke his non-throwing hand yesterday. Based on a report by Rivals, it was legitimately a freak accident involving a friend wakeboarding.

News of the injury emerged on Wednesday afternoon. It was the second freakish injury that Fromm has suffered while participating in lake activities this off-season.

Earlier in the year, the Georgia starter got a fishing lure caught in his leg, prompting a hospital trip. It was a minor, but gruesome-looking, injury.

This latest incident was of a similar freakish, accidental variety. From Rivals:

Apparently Fromm was with a group of friends who were trying to get someone up on a wake board, and their pull rope slipped away, snapping the attached handle back to hit Fromm in the hand. It was just a freak accident as all Fromm was doing was sitting in the back of the boat. The Georgia quarterback was just unlucky.

The latest Jake Fromm injury is not expected to cost him major time.

According to ESPN, it is a small fracture, and he is not expected to miss any summer workouts. That's a good news for Fromm and the Dawgs.

Fromm inherited his starting job at the beginning of last season, after starter Jacob Eason went down with an injury. From there, he led Georgia to the national championship game.

He still has to perform this season, though. Georgia brought in elite blue-chipper Justin Fields in the 2018 recruiting class. He's one of the most highly-touted players in the entire country.

At the same time, Georgia's QB depth is very thin behind Fields. Eason transferred to Washington this off-season, and highly regarded walk-on Stetson Bennett, who was set to be third-string, elected to head to junior college in order to attract FBS scholarship offers.
