James Banks transfer update: the Texas center has found his new college basketball home. Banks, a former four-star recruit, played two seasons with the Longhorns. After seeing his role diminish this year, he's heading to Georgia Tech.

Banks is a native of Decatur, Georgia, just outside Atlanta. He eventually moved on to Indiana basketball power La Lumiere School, where he emerged as a top recruit. On October 8, 2015, he became a member of Texas's 2016 recruiting class.

247Sports ranked him as the No. 63 player in the country. He was the No. 9 center, and the second-ranked player in Indiana.

Banks was little-used as a freshman, but had a role in Shaka Smart's rotation. He played over 12 minutes per game, averaging 1.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and a pretty impressive 1.2 blocks per night. That is roughly a block every ten minutes on the floor.

His role actually decreased this season. As a sophomore, he played only 95 total minutes, scoring 1.6 points per game.

James Banks transfer was announced back on March 28.

He had trouble getting into the mix, with Mohamed Bamba having a strong freshman season. Dylan Osetkowski and Jericho Sims also played ahead of him.

Now, Banks is off to Georgia Tech. He made the announcement via Twitter.

Banks will likely have to sit out the 2018-19 season. He will then be eligible as a redshirt junior the following year.

It is a good get for Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets had a rough season, finishing 13-19 with a 6-12 ACC record. The team loses Ben Lammers, one of its best players over the last two years, at the center position. James Banks will definitely infuse Josh Pastner's team with some frontcourt talent. Whether Pastner will be around to coach him, is another question.
