Date, Location Set For Kentucky-Michigan Game In London
Two of the most prestigious programs in college basketball will battle overseas next year. Michigan and Kentucky will play in London in one of the top non-conference games on next season's schedule.
Both programs are considered elite basketball schools. John Calipari has built a perennial contender at Kentucky, meanwhile Juwan Howard is showing a lot of promise in his first year the helm in Michigan.
The Wildcats are ranked No. 8 in the country, while the Wolverines are sitting at No. 5 in the latest AP Poll.
Although there were already rumors about Kentucky and Michigan facing off in London, the date and location weren't set until today.
Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio is reporting that the game will be played on Dec. 5 from O2 Olympic Arena.
Jones also revealed that Kentucky will earn $500,000 for playing in this London game.
It'll be really interesting to see how much success college basketball games can have across the pond. The NFL has found success in London over the past few years, so perhaps the NCAA will try that model as well.
Since it's somewhat of a new experiment for college hoops, it makes sense to send two marquee brands to London.
