4-Star S Keontra Smith Announces Commitment To Kentucky

Four-star safety Keontra Smith has committed to the Kentucky Wildcats.

Smith, a Hollywood, Florida native, is the No. 5 safety in the class of 2019.

The star junior is also the No. 9 recruit in Florida for the class, per 247Sports.

His decision comes as a bit of a surprise given some of his other offers, and is a coup for head coach Mark Stoops.

He made the announcement via Twitter this morning.

His full note:

"First and foremost, I would like to honor and thank God for all of the blessings and gifts he has sent my family and myself. I would like to Thank my family, my coaches, and my teammates for supporting me in pursuing my dream and pushing me to go harder. While I continue to focus on my future plans, I would like to announce that I am COMMITTED to the University of Kentucky #BBN19 #GoCats #LLDP"

Kentucky beat out a number of huge programs for Smith, including Auburn, Louisville, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Wisconsin.

Early voters in 247Sports' crystal ball believe he will wind up at Miami. The Hurricanes have not offered yet, but obviously a lot can change between now and February 2019. For now, though, it's a very good day for the 'Cats.
