After the season, it seemed like a near-certainty that Kevin Knox would be the next Kentucky one-and-done. Now, it really doesn't sound too set in stone.

For a few days now, Knox and his father, Kevin Knox Sr., have said that there is no guarantee that he leaves. John Calipari, who has embraced the one-and-done era like no one else, has also reportedly pushed for the star forward to return for a sophomore year.

Earlier in the week, Knox Sr. shared what Calipari had said in his meeting with the family. Kentucky's head coach made note of how young the potential lottery pick is.

Knox won't turn 19 until August. There will be many top incoming freshman that are as old or even older than him, which takes a bit of the stress for an early NBA start off.

Kevin Knox's decision should come today.

Based on what his father has said, it shouldn't be a huge surprise if he elects to put off the NBA for another season.

Knox Sr., a former Florida State and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver, spoke to LEX18 about the upcoming decision. In doing so, he mentioned how much he loved his own college career, and how that could inform his son's choice.

"He comes from a family where both his parents have their college degree. We're good. It's been a blessing to be part of Kentucky and it would be a blessing to be part of the NBA."

[...]

"I told him I like Kentucky. There was nothing like playing for Florida State when I was scoring touchdowns and winning a national championship. I got that feeling this year. I love the fan interaction. My brother, if you want to come to Kentucky, I'm there."

"The best years of my life was in college. It became a serious business when I got to the NFL"

Ultimately, it sounds like Kevin Knox Jr. will make the call. Knox Sr. said that he didn't know that his son would choose Kentucky over Duke as a high school recruit until minutes before he announced it. With Knox back, Kentucky would be a serious national championship contender. We have seen some Wildcats unexpectedly return in similar situations before, and there are certainly crazier things than chasing a ring.
