Miami Football Is Having A Ridiculous Recruiting Day
Miami is hosting an "Underclassmen Day" event on campus this afternoon. It is going pretty well for Mark Richt and his staff so far.
To open the day, Miami landed its first member of the 2021 recruiting class. Safety James Williams isn't rated yet, as he is just a high school freshman.
However, he is clearly a coveted player, given some of his early offers. Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, and Tennessee were all in on Williams.
Today, he became the first member of Miami football's 2021 class.
Even going back to Al Golden's years on campus, Miami is notorious for getting out ahead of these classes. Here is Williams's full Twitter note:
"First off I want to start off by thanking the man above GOD himself for blessing me with the talent to play the game I love. I want to thank my mom who physically couldn't share this moment with me but has been spiritually watching over me on my Journey to success. I want to thank my Two Big Brothers, Grandma and support staff for pushing me to the potential they know I can be Now I Will Be COMMITTING to the University of Miami #Ripmom #Category21 #GoCanes"
Miami wasn't done with just Williams. It also landed a pair of players that will be on campus a little sooner.
After Williams, four-star 2020 cornerback Henry Gray made his pledge. Via 247Sports:
Miami Central Top100 2020 cornerback Henry Gray confirmed with gave a verbal pledge to the Hurricanes after attending UM's Underclassmen Day on Saturday. [...] "It went really well," he told InsideTheU in a message. "The coaches told me that they are going to recruit me hard."
Shortly after Gray, Miami landed a third commit. This time, it was four-star 2020 tight end Dominic Mammarelli.
Miami's 2020 class, currently ranked No. 1 in the country, is shaping up to be extremely impressive.
Obviously it is hard to hold on to all of those players until December 2019/February 2020, but for now it is a dominant group. Nine players who will be juniors in the fall are already pledged to the Hurricanes, including one five-star and seven four-stars.
