Cassius Peat Says Michigan State Is No Longer Welcoming Him Back For 2017 Season
Cassius Peat, a former Michigan State defensive end, was set to return to the Spartans this summer after transferring out last August. That has abruptly changed.
Peat left the program last August, after joining as a member of the class of 2015. He went to junior college, but eventually recommitted to Michigan State, saying he was "overwhelmed" from the response he got from his former teammates. His plans have changed however. Spartan Nation broke the news about Peat earlier today in a subscription article:
Peat was set to re-enroll for the summer and join the team again, until he was "blindsided" by the coaching staff, which he said told him not to return to the school.
Peat spoke to the Detroit Free Pressabout the situation:
Peat told the Free Press this afternoon that he was told by coaches Wednesday that he should not come back to Michigan State.
“Morally, I didn’t think it was right,” Peat said. “Four days before I was supposed to report, they just blindsided me and said I couldn’t come.”
Peat contends that he has no reason why the staff has changed its mind on bringing him back to the team:
“It’s beyond me why they would do that,” Peat said. “I was admitted by compliance and the university. I’m not sure exactly what’s going on with the program. … I worked so hard in the year off, taking all these (course) hours. Even coming back on an official visit and, just four days before, they throw you to the curb. I had to put that out there to this point."
Peat says he is looking at other Big Ten programs, as well as Pac-12 teams, with Michigan State no longer an option.
