Earlier this month, Urban Meyer criticized Michigan State for its inability to develop talent as of late. Fast forward roughly a week later, and Mark Dantonio has fired back at the former Ohio State head coach.

Meyer made his comments on FOX's Big Noon Kickoff.

"You watch Michigan State play — I don't know how many NFL players they've got," Meyer said. "I don't know. That doesn't look like the defenses that I used to go against."

The reason Meyer went on this rant is because the Spartans are struggling mightily in recent years to send players to the NFL. They used to send talent like Le'Veon Bell and Kirk Cousins to the pros.

Another reason that Meyer is skeptical about Michigan State is that the program is the recent decline in recruiting.

When asked about Meyer's comments, Dantonio cited former players such as Darqueze Dennard, Trae Waynes and Jack Conklin. He cited them because they were lower-level recruits that turned into NFL-caliber players.

Dantonio has been quite successful as the head coach at Michigan State. However, the last two seasons have been uncharacteristically bad for the Spartans.

If Michigan State doesn't defeat Maryland on Saturday, Dantonio's team will miss a bowl game for the second time in four years.
