Virginia Tech Commit Deshawn McClease Takes Shots At UVA After Cavaliers Fan Comes After Him On Twitter

Unfortunately, the Virginia vs. Virginia Tech rivalry, which annually results in the awarding of the Commonwealth Cup, hasn't really lived up to the billing over the past decade or so. There are three main reasons. One, UVA's program has really dipped in the time frame, as the Cavaliers have posted as many losing seasons as they have winning campaigns. Two - Virginia Tech, while still looked at as a successful program, is not quite the national power it was in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Three, the Hokies have won the last 10 contests - which is every single matchup since they joined the ACC. But Thursday, a Twitter fight between a commit and a fan proved that the rivalry might not yet be dead after all.

Deshawn McClease, a three-star running back recruit from the state of Virginia, committed to Virginia Tech just two days ago. As you'd imagine, he got some flak from Wahoos fans. He apparently took some of it personally, because he eventually started going back-and-forth with one particular UVA supporter (who comes off looking petulant) who really had it out for him. Multiple insults later, McClease took shots at UVA's win total over the past couple of seasons.

I've said this before and I'll say it again - it is very, very lame when fans go after players on Twitter because they didn't choose to play for a certain program. That being said, it might not be too good of an idea for a kid over a year away from stepping on campus to start talking about a rival's struggles.
