8 Takeaways From Week 6 In College Football, Plus Some Audacious Predictions

Here's exactly how the season is going to play out.

Week 6 is now complete, which means we're almost halfway through the season. That's pretty depressing, but you know what we can do? We can make some audacious predictions about what will happen the rest of the way. Let's take a look at how this weekend's games turned out, while taking a few stabs at what the future will hold.

1. Alabama got past Georgia State

Alabama fans had to have breathed a huge sigh of relief after Saturday's game, surviving against Georgia State! The Crimson Tide are now 5-0 and have three more games until LSU comes to town. The Tide seems to be rolling, having found new weapons on offense and their defense becoming what we all expected it to be: dominant. If Alabama can get past LSU, there's nobody else that can beat them, right?

Audacious Prediction: Alabama is going to lose to Auburn in the last week of the regular season. The Tigers are getting better each week, and will come out and play inspired in the Iron Bowl, shocking Nick Saban and the rest of the world.

2. Oregon managed to rally against Colorado

The Buffaloes actually had the lead for like 30 seconds. I was impressed. Oregon is averaging 59 points per game and I don't see it slowing down. The Ducks still have the toughest part of their schedule ahead, with Washington next week, then UCLA two weeks later, and finally, Stanford. Can Oregon make it through the gauntlet?

Audacious Prediction: No one comes close to beating Oregon, including Stanford. The Ducks just steamroll everyone they play and end up in the Pac-12 Championship game against-- who cares, they'll crush them too. Oregon will be in the National Championship game, and since Alabama won't be there after having lost to Auburn, the Ducks will win it all.

3. Florida State and Clemson both win convincingly

Especially Florida State! Gosh, the Seminoles just walloped Maryland, who were 4-0 and ranked. It was impressive. Clemson was also impressive, racking up several big plays against Syracuse. These two teams are setting up a monster showdown two weeks from now when FSU travels to Clemson. Though Clemson will have the home-field advantage, I bet a lot of people like the Seminoles to beat the Tigers after Saturday's performance.

Audacious Prediction: Clemson beats Florida State by two scores. I said last week that I like Jameis Winston in big games, and I do, but I like Tajh Boyd even more.

4. Louisville continues to reap the benefits of an easy schedule

The Cardinals blasted Temple on Saturday to improve to 5-0. Their next big game comes never because they play no good teams. None. However...

Audacious Prediction: Louisville will lose. To who? Maybe UCF. Maybe Cincinnati the last week of the season. Heck, maybe to UConn a few weeks from now. But one thing is for sure: the Cardinals are going to lose a game.

5. Baylor scored 70 points for the third straight game

Look at Baylor, becoming a football school or something. Against West Virginia Saturday, the Bears broke the Big 12 record for yards in a game and it's sort of like they're really good. But can they do it against higher quality teams?

Audacious Prediction: Baylor is going to lose a game, but still win the Big 12. I would love to say the Bears are going to go undefeated, but I don't think they're there yet. At some point, the offense will slow down, at least a little bit, and the defense will have to stop someone. Having Oklahoma at home is nice, though.

6. Michigan plays another Michigan-y game

I'm still having a hard time deciding what kind of team Michigan is. The Wolverines didn't look too great for most of the game against Minnesota Saturday, but still managed to win by 29. Michigan has been far from the most impressive team this season, almost losing to Akron and Connecticut. So what can the Wolverines expect moving forward?

Audacious Prediction: Michigan will be undefeated when it plays Ohio State. Is this really audacious? Are you sick of the word audacious? I think the answer is "yes" to both questions. The Wolverines could easily stumble against Michigan State, Northwestern, or even Indiana, but I think they'll continue to find a way to win.

7. Speaking of the Big Ten, the Buckeyes won a nail-biter

I thought Northwestern had Ohio State's number Saturday night. The Buckeyes pulled it out, though, and now have won 18 consecutive games against mediocre teams. Many people around Columbus predicted a convincing Buckeye victory, but I was not one of them -- Ohio State was fortunate to come away with the win. Plenty of people still doubt this Ohio State team. Is that fair?

Audacious Prediction: Ohio State goes undefeated, but doesn't make it to the National Championship game. So what are we looking at here? It will be a Clemson-Oregon championship, and Ohio State fans will act like they're really mad that their team got robbed, but are actually relieved they don't have to watch the Buckeyes play Oregon.

8. Notre Dame wins another close one

I really didn't think the Irish had it in them. A nice win, but I'll continue to act like Notre Dame isn't very good; it's fun.

Audacious Prediction: Notre Dame will lose two more regular season games. 8-4 isn't too bad, right?
