The New Orleans Saints made headlines this week, signing Dez Bryant to a one-year deal. While the football world can’t wait to watch him catch passes from Drew Brees, the Pro Bowl wideout might have to wait one more week.
Bryant was released by the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason, and although he spent months to find a new home, he should fit comfortably in the Big Easy. Nonetheless, head coach Sean Payton runs a complex offense that will take time for him to fully grasp.
It’d be thrilling to watch Bryant play on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, but it seems next weekend is a more realistic date for his debut.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero went in detail about Bryant’s status for Sunday in this video:
New #Saints WR Dez Bryant is expected to sit out Sunday‘s game vs. #Bengals. They want him to drop weight and he needs more than two practices to learn the offense, build chemistry, etc. Debut could come the following week vs. the #Eagles. @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/NisbE8tmZU

If he is inactive for this weekend, then Bryant will gain an extra week to watch from a distance and observe the offense. He should have the chance to face the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cowboys later in the season.
Earlier this week, New Orleans put Cameron Meredith on injured reserve.
The Saints are coming off a victory over the Los Angeles Rams, as they are in the driver’s seat for the NFC South.
