The rookie defensive back will have to live with his devastating error.
The Minnesota Vikings exorcised some franchise demons with their miraculous touchdown on the final play of today’s NFC Divisional playoff game against the New Orleans Saints.
Saints rookie safety Marcus Williams added some demons of his own with his blunder on the play.
All Williams had to do was tackle Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs and the game would have been over. Minnesota had no timeouts and could not stop the clock.
Instead, Williams lowered his head and dove past Diggs, who made a leaping grab, maintained his balance and sprinted to the end zone for the game-winning score.
On instant replay, Williams’ error looks even worse. He almost looks like he’s ducking to avoid Diggs.
We doubt he was actually doing that, but it looks bad.

Again, Williams is a rookie, and we feel for him because he’s going to have to live with this the rest of his career.
Hopefully he is able to have a big moment down the line to erase some of the pain from today.
