Patrick Chung made it out of Super Bowl LIII with a gnarly reminder of playing in the game. The veteran safety broke his arm making a tackle, and he needed surgery to repair it.
Chung appears to be in good spirits and has posted numerous times on social media as he recovers. Today, he shared a photo of his forearm with 23 stitches in it following surgery.
You can view the picture from Chung here. We won’t embed it because it might be too graphic for some.
The irony of needing 23 stitches to close the surgical wound when his jersey number is 23 wasn’t lost on Chung. He referenced it in the caption of the photo.
“23 stitches. Coincidence??? I think not! Hahaha #keepbeingsavage is my new hash!!” Chung wrote.
Three days ago, Chung posted a photo of himself lying on the field after getting hurt. In the caption, he said that everything he went through was worth it.
Chung, a second-round pick out of Oregon in 2009, has spent nine of his 10 seasons with New England. He played with the Patriots from 2009-12 before spending a year with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Chung resigned with the Pats in 2014, and in his second stint with the franchise, he’s now won three Super Bowls.
