Christian Hackenberg never saw the field during his two seasons with the New York Jets. Even worse, he didn’t even make it to training camp with the Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders traded for Hackenberg on May 22. The former Penn State quarterback apparently couldn’t find his footing in a new home and was released by the team earlier this week.
He’d only been with the team three weeks. Oakland made the smart move by dumping Hackenberg when it did – the Raiders are able to retain their conditional seventh-round pick.
As for Hackenberg, he cleared waivers and is now free to tour around the country looking for work.
His first stop? New England.
Sources: former Jets QB Christian Hackenberg is at Gillette Stadium visiting the Patriots today.

It would be very fitting is the Patriots were able to turn the former second-round draft pick into a star. However, we haven’t seen much from Hackenberg since he entered the league in 2016.
The 23-year-old has all the arm talent in the world, but mental mistakes have kept him from living up to his tremendous potential coming out of high school.
We’ll keep you updated with the latest from the former Nittany Lion.
