Xander Schauffele May Have Just Had The Worst Shot Of His Career

Xander Schauffele is one of the best golfers in the world, and he's in the hunt for the U.S. Open this weekend.

A win at the Los Angeles Country Club would be his first career major victory, adding to an impressive career that includes an Olympic gold medal.

Schauffele has looked good for most of the weekend, but one shot on Saturday resembled something you're more likely to see at a local municipal course than at a major championship.

After finding himself in a green side bunker after his opening tee shot, Schauffele attempted to work his way out. As you can see above, it didn't go so well.

Schauffele's shot hit the edge of the bunker before flopping right back over into it. At this point, things don't seem too bad. It's only his second shot of the hole and it's a par five, plenty of time to get back into things and salvage a good score.

Unfortunately, Schauffele's third shot from a few feet away did the exact same thing, and he was forced to finally get himself out of the bunker with his fourth shot of the hole.

Schauffele ended up with a bogey on the hole, so he was able to at least minimize the damage. Still, with the prospect of winning your first major title in front of you, it's the last shot you want to see at the U.S. Open.
