Following an impressive visit to Oregon, Notre Dame quarterback commit Blake Barnett stated that he still planned to join the Irish, but admitted that the visit to see what the Ducks have to offer shook up his recruitment a bit. The South Bend Tribune has more, via DuckTerritory.com:
“Oregon was impressive no doubt. The facilities are amazing, I think everyone knows that already. But they are as impressive in person. I really liked the coaching staff and how they handle things. That also made a big impression on me. There is a lot to like about Oregon, it’s a great program.”
“I’m still committed to Notre Dame, but I’m treating this like a business decision. I wanted to visit Oregon to be sure of my decision. I appreciate Notre Dame and the coaches and their support, but this was something I need to do to be sure.”
A day later, his recruitment is officially wide open once again, as Barnett announced on Twitter that he has decommitted from Notre Dame.
Barnett, who is from Corona, CA, is rated third among dual-threat quarterbacks by 247Sports' composite rankings. His offer list includes Alabama, Michigan, UCLA, as well as the Ducks, Irish, and many others. Considering the timing of this development, Oregon certainly seems like a good bet to land him.
