The 2019 AP preseason Top 25 aren’t expected to be released until August, but it shouldn’t be too hard to get an idea of what it might look like. Naturally, the programs that had the best finishes to 2018 will be ranked pretty highly with Alabama and Clemson jockeying for the top spot.
We made our predictions for the poll earlier in May and others are starting to do the same.
247Sports analyst Brad Crawford gave his prediction for what the poll will look like. Unsurprisingly, the SEC dominates the list with four representatives, while the Big Ten and Big 12 have two representatives.
Clemson, the defending national champion, was given the top spot as they look to extend their 15-game winning streak, a fifth-straight ACC title, and third national title in four years.
Here is 247Sports’ 2019 AP preseason Top 10 prediction:
10. Notre Dame
5. Ohio State
Such a final ranking would pit Oklahoma against Clemson and Georgia against Alabama in the College Football Playoff.
Alabama and Clemson have become College Football Playoff regulars, while Oklahoma is coming off back-to-back appearances in the tournament. Georgia missed the tournament last year after making it to the national title game the year before.
Absent from the top four but still making the top 10 is Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish went 12-0 in the regular season last year and were awarded the No. 3 spot in the College Football Playoff. But they were beaten soundly by Clemson in the Cotton Bowl.
