CFP Selection Committee Chair Jeff Long: ASU Jumped Notre Dame Due To More Convincing Win Against Stanford

One of the many interesting moves in this week's College Football Playoff rankings is Arizona State's ascension to ninth from 14th, putting the Sun Devils one spot ahead of their next opponent, Notre Dame. According to selection committee chair Jeff Long, Arizona State's more impressive victory against Stanford, a common opponent it shares with Notre Dame, was a major factor.

Arizona State's 26-10 win over the Cardinal was on October 18, while Notre Dame snuck by the Cardinal on October 4, so clearly the Sun Devils' win over Utah this past weekend had a major impact as well. Notre Dame was fairly unimpressive in a 10 point win over Navy. Irish fans will likely disagree with with the spot behind Arizona State, but luckily for everyone, these two teams face off in Tempe at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday. That game should settle any debate.
